Our Government Has Failed To Put Their Oxygen Mask On

You have to take care of your house first so you are able to take care of others. It’s a basic principle, it’s a Biblical principle, and our culture hates it.

Hurricane Helene was immensely destructive. The government has ways to help with these disasters, FEMA. Already there is talk about money running out. Why? Where did the money go?

How much money are we sending to Ukraine?

How much money are we spending on the interest of our national debt?

How much money are we spending to house and feed illegal immigrants?

I’m not against helping other countries or even those who legitimately want to migrate here. What I’m saying is, there is a Biblical principle of taking care of your own house so you can help others. What I’m saying is, our government has done a terrible job taking care of our house so we can help others.

The first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God. Why is that first? Because without God we don’t know how to love properly. We must first love God because He is worthy and then we are able to follow the second greatest commandment, love your neighbor as yourself. We are not loving our neighbor, nor ourselves, if we are not first and foremost loving God with everything we are. (Mark 12:29-31)

First take the plank of your own eye, then you will be able to see clearly to remove the speck from your brothers eye. We aren’t to ignore the speck in our brother’s eye, we are to help them, but we can’t help them until we can see clearly. Before you go complaining about others, you better see what needs to be fixed in your own life. Work on yourself so you can better work on others. (Luke 6:42)

An overseer of a church must manage their own household well. If they can’t manage their own household then how can they possibly manage a church? (1 Timothy 3:4-5)

Israel was blessed so they could be a blessing. (Genesis 12:2)

The zeitgeist says we should only be concerned for others. “We must love our neighbors.” And the world pushes to flip this Biblical model around, because the world is evil.

We are told we have to fight for democracy in Ukraine meanwhile our veterans are getting terrible care. We are told we have to provide for all those at the border, they are the least of these, meanwhile homelessness is continuing to rise. How can we help others when we don’t even know how to help ourselves?

The first thing we need to do is love the Lord our God. Then we can begin to order our house by Biblical principles. We can actually love our neighbors by living according to the Truth and not being afraid that someone will be offended. We can do what is right rather than what is expedient.

We see now the fruit from the seeds of wickedness; hopelessness, despair, death, no way to help because we have abandoned the God who helps. We have chased after the god of self, the god of pleasure, the god influence, and found that god to be false and led by demons.

But hope is never lost with the Lord our God. He is a God of steadfast love, eager to forgive, and quick to save. He is a rock, a refuge, a help when we are in need. He has opened His throne room of grace by the blood of Jesus Christ that we can always come to Him.

So let us fire those government officials who have done such a poor job of leading this country, the opportunity to vote is coming soon.

And let us seek after God, above all else, with all our heart, mind, and strength.
