One of the arguments from the world is there is no ‘absolute truth’. Truth is highly subjective; your truth, my truth, his truth, their truth. This, of course, means the Bible is cruel and wrong because it claims to be the truth, the word of God. There are some basic problems with this reasoning that I would like to discuss.
First, there is the obvious. Claiming there is no absolute truth would be an absolute truth. People inherently know this but ignore it for various reasons.
Second, let us talk about orthopraxis. Orthopraxy is the idea that there is a right practice, people should behave a certain way. We certainly see this orthopraxis in our secular society; be kind, love is love, social justice, equity, etc. Some circles hold orthopraxy over orthodoxy, the practice is more important than the belief. The problem I see is how do you know what to practice if it is not coming from a belief? That practice had to come from somewhere. Who said that being kind was a good thing? How is one supposed to properly be kind? There has to be an idea, a belief, that is the foundation of the action. This means there is a fundamental truth, ‘a’ truth, those claiming there to be no objective truth are living by. This is all to say, whether people admit it or not, everyone lives with absolute truth.
Third, everything in nature points to absolute truth. There is life and death. Life has certain requirements. Gravity is universal, though it may have some fluctuations. Light is light, dark is dark. So on and so forth. This means, no matter how much someone may desire it, a man cannot be a woman and vice versa, marriage is between one man and one woman, there is a God, there is a devil, God is good, and the devil is bad. These are truths that God put in place and they will not change. My point is, the very nature surrounding us every day is declaring the works of God, even His truth.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.” Romans 1:18–23
The world is in rebellion against God. We know that, right? I mean, it makes sense, but seeing the actual mechanism helps me process what is going on. They know the truth, at some level, and choose to suppress it. Of course the world would push against truth itself, truth is from God. “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.” John 15:26
What do we do with all that?
Sometimes I get really aggravated that things don’t make sense. I can get thoroughly frustrated that our society cannot see its hypocrisy; truth, inclusiveness, kindness, love, and justice, their actions fly in the face of the ideal they are promoting. When I go back to the word of God I see the world is doing what it has always done and will always do, suppress the truth. God can clearly be seen so they must do everything they can to veil their eyes, stop their ears, and dull their mind. Plus, we are so far down the slippery slope at this point in history that the very foundations are being attacked.
Last thought, maybe. The first thing we learn about humanity is that we were made in God’s image. The second thing we learn is we were made with gender, male and female. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'” Genesis 1:27-28
This is what I mean by the very foundations being attacked, gender. I never would have seen the division of male and female as a Christian distinctive, but it would seem that it is. And what happens when the final block everything is teetering on gets pulled out? Chaos, and that is precisely the objective of our society. God created order, the world wants chaos.
Take heart! Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). The world and our society are nothing to be feared. These thoughts simply help me process what is happening in the world and know how to live with it. It gives me the courage to stand on truth and assurance to know it is truth. So don’t back down! Seek truth, ask for wisdom, and trust in God. “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
